Essar Stanlow recognised in national RoSPA safety awards 2015

11th August, 2015

Essar Oil UK’s Stanlow Manufacturing Complex is among the winners in the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) annual awards, for its commitment to Occupational Health and Safety.  Essar Oil UK has won the Gold Award for 2015 and the Order of Distinction for 19 consecutive Gold Awards for the Ellesmere Port site.

As the UK’s family safety charity, RoSPA’s mission to save lives and reduce injuries covers all ages and stages of life.  Dating back 59 years, the RoSPA awards recognise commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention in the workplace. The scheme is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas, with judges considering entrants’ overarching occupational health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

David Rawlins, RoSPA Awards Manager, said: “The RoSPA awards encourage improvement in occupational health and safety management.  Organisations that gain recognition for their health and safety management systems, such as Essar Oil UK, contribute to raising standards overall and we congratulate them.”

Jon Mason, Stanlow Site Manager, commented:  “The safety, good health and wellbeing of everyone who works at Stanlow is core business for us. We are all proud, that for the 19th consecutive year, we have achieved external recognition from such a respected organisation for our commitment to preventing injuries and ill health.”

The majority of RoSPA awards are non-competitive, grading achievement at merit, bronze, silver and gold levels. Organisations maintaining high standards in consecutive years can win gold medals, president’s awards and orders of distinction.
