The Essar Chester Half Marathon
We've been the title sponsor of the multi award-winning Chester Half Marathon since 2016 and recently signed a renewal agreement to take the title sponsorship through to 2027. A recent tally of the race results from 1982 to 2022 revealed that the number of runners who had participated in the event to date was approaching a significant milestone with the 100,000th runner due to cross the finish line in this race. To celebrate, we're offering the 100,000th runner a donation of £1,000 for the charity of their choice!

The Chester Half is one of the UK’s longest established and most highly regarded half marathons, starting and finishing in the historic Roman/Medieval international destination city of Chester. The predominately flat city and rural race route will be run entirely on closed roads. Check out the race route here. Race day will also include the 1 mile Fun Run.
Route
The race starts at 09:00 at the city centre Chester Racecourse. Heading northwest out of the city on wide roads, runners will rapidly settle into the race, with plenty of support and music along the way. In the second half of the race the runners return to Chester for an unforgettable finish outside the Town Hall and Cathedral.
Drinks
Drinks stations, with bottled water will be staggered every 2.5 to 3 miles. Bands, music and entertainment also entertain the crowds and runners along the way.
Timing
There will be chip timing with splits at 5k, 10k, 15k and 20k, with social media athlete tracking so friends and family can follow your progress.
Medals & Finisher Goodies
All finishers will receive a technical T-shirt, bespoke medal and a top quality goody bag. The race is licensed by UK Athletics and run under its rules. To run the Essar Chester Half Marathon you must be at least 17 years old on race day.
